VoiceLabs vs Speechify Studio
Speechify Studio’s plan names, credit allowances and free-tier restrictions below were read from speechify.com/pricing-studio as of 2026-09-02. Where this page converts their credits into minutes it says so, because the conversion is ours and not their published figure. Their plans change; check their site for the current list. VoiceLabs prices come straight from our own plan configuration.
| DIMENSION | VoiceLabs | Speechify Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Which product | One product: a browser voice studio for text-to-speech and voice cloning, plus an API and an MCP server on the same account. | Speechify Studio, their creator product. Their better-known reading app is a separate product on a separate plan — do not read this table as covering it. |
| Status | Pre-launch. The site, accounts, and the Pro plan with billing are live, as is our MCP server for AI agents. The studio itself is in development. | Shipped and generally available — you can sign up and generate today. |
| Entry price | $8/month, or $59/year ($4.92/mo billed annually). A 7-day free trial, card upfront. No free plan and no guest mode. | A free tier with 600 Studio credits. Their cheapest paid tier is Studio Starter at $100 a year — about $8.33 a month. |
| How usage is counted | Minutes of generated audio: 2 hours a month as fair use. No credit pool to budget, no per-character fee, no overage bill. | Studio credits. Voiceover bills 1 credit per second, so their 600 Studio credits free tier works out to about 10 minutes of audio, and Studio Starter's 86,400 credits per year to roughly 120 minutes a month. The per-second rate is theirs; the minute figures are our arithmetic on it. |
| What the free tier lets you keep | Everything you generate is yours to download, on any account. No preview-only tier and no watermark on the audio. | Their free plan lists “No Voice Cloning” and “No commercial usage rights”, and downloading an mp3 requires an upgrade. |
| Voice cloning | Instant cloning from a short reference clip, planned at launch, included on the plan. You confirm the voice is yours or that you have the speaker's permission, and we keep that acknowledgement. | Not on the free plan — their free plan card says “No Voice Cloning” outright. |
| Commercial rights | Included with VoiceLabs Pro. A free account is for personal use; the paid plan is what carries the right to sell what you make. | Also a paid gate — their free plan card states “No commercial usage rights”. This is the industry norm rather than anything unusual about either of us. |
| AI agent access (MCP) | A remote MCP server, live now: streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 with a consent screen, six tools, revocable per agent. | We did not find an official MCP server published by Speechify, so we make no claim either way — check with them. |
| Open-source foundation | Built on the open-source VoiceBox project (MIT), and that attribution is permanent. The hosted service around it is commercial. | A closed, proprietary product. We have not verified what models sit underneath it, so we make no claim about them here. |
Who should pick Speechify Studio
Anyone already inside the Speechify ecosystem, and anyone who needs a working product today. If you use their reader on a phone or in a browser, Studio is the creator half of a suite you already trust, with an account and a bill you already have — and that coherence is worth more than a feature table admits. They also ship a much broader consumer product than VoiceLabs ever intends to. If you need to make audio this week, use them; VoiceLabs’ studio is not finished.
Who might prefer VoiceLabs
People who do not want to think in credits. A credit pool priced per second is a budget you have to run in your head before every take, and Studio’s free tier additionally withholds the mp3 — so the thing you were evaluating, the finished file, is the one thing you cannot examine. VoiceLabs meters in minutes, on one flat $8-a-month plan, and never withholds the download. Add an open-source foundation you can read (MIT VoiceBox), voice cloning on the ordinary plan, and a hosted MCP server for AI agents, and that is the case. The launch status above is the thing to weigh against it.
7-day free trial, card upfront, cancel anytime before it ends.
