ElevenLabs credits to minutes
About 1,000 ElevenLabs credits make one minute of speech on their Multilingual v2 models, where one credit buys one character of text. So 10,000 credits is about 10 minutes (the monthly allowance of their free plan), 30,000 credits is about 30 minutes (Starter), and 100,000 credits is about 1 hour 40 minutes. Their Flash and Turbo models cost between 0.5 and 1 credit per character through the API, so the same credits can stretch further there.

10,000 characters ÷ 1,000 characters per minute. That divisor is an approximation, and the real figure moves with speaking rate, punctuation and language.

Where the conversion comes from
About 1,000 characters of text becomes about one minute of speech. That is not our estimate — it is read off ElevenLabs’ own pricing page, whose compare-plans table lists the minutes of speech each plan includes, and every one of those figures is that plan’s monthly credits divided by 1,000. At one credit per character on their Multilingual v2 models, that is 1,000 characters a minute. Fish Audio’s page corroborates it independently, pairing 8,000 monthly credits with “up to 7 minutes generation”. ElevenLabs’ page was read 2026-09-28; Fish Audio’s 2026-09-02.
What it cannot tell you
It is an estimate, and a rough one. Speaking rate, punctuation, pauses and language all move the real duration — the same 1,000 characters read as unhurried narration runs noticeably longer than the same text as clipped dialogue, and a Chinese or Japanese script packs far more speech into the same character count than an English one does. Treat the answer as an order of magnitude for choosing a plan, not as a quote.
It also prices everything at one credit per character, the Multilingual v2 rate. Their Flash and Turbo models can cost less per character through the API, so the same credits can buy more audio there. And it matches a balance to a plan by that plan’s monthly allowance alone; it does not model credits carried over from an earlier month.
